There are six primary families of Lamps: Incandescent, Halogen, Fluorescent, Compact Fluorescent(CFL's), High Intensity Discharge(HID) and Stage and Studio. Except for the Stage and Studio family of lamps which is a mixture of all the other lamp families, each family of lamps has it's own unique operating and illuminating characteristics.
